Our Story
BOTEH jeghe - was born from the love of finding a way to introduce Persian food to wider nationalities - making it easier to navigate and eat any of our flavoursome dishes, without the know how that is expected from the Persian community.
It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time visiting, or if you have been many times before, you can simply choose any dish and eat it ‘the way you like it’.
Our menu is simple, concise, and 100% Persian – no fancy designs or twists, just a simple good old Persian homemade cuisine to enjoy the way it should be.
Boteh Jeghe’s routes came from our main restaurant and family business (Galleria Restaurant – Marylebone [17 New Cavendish st, London W1G 9UA]) which opened its door to serve from 1995 - with a mother who loves her cooking and a father who dedicated his life to his art and painting. From the early years our aim was to sustain a high quality service and always with fresh produce, that has been able to grow with customer demands and moving trends.
24 years on, and after many years of changes in Persian food philosophy, eating habits and signs of more popularity, in October 2019 a new concept of Persian Eatery was opened. We called it ‘BOTEH jeghe’ [meaning: paisley].
Why ‘BOTEH jeghe’
History states that one of the most unique exports from Persia (now called Iran) was the pattern of 'Boteh Jeghe' which translates to the 'Paisley pattern' known to many in UK and the English speaking world.
The design motif known as paisley is taken from the ancient Aryan boteh (boteh) motif. Boteh is a Persian word meaning bush, shrub, a thicket (a small dense forest of small trees or bushes), bramble, herb. Some would even take it to mean a palm leaf, cluster of leaves (perhaps as a repeated pattern) and flower bud.
The association of it’s classic and yet fresh look of this unique pattern brings everything in line with what we creating in our restaurant. A traditional homemade taste of Persian cuisine with a fresh approach of service and casual hospitality and affordable prices.

The word khoresht is a generic word for stew dishes in Persian cuisine. There are multiple different stew dishes, and each region of Iran brings out a flavour of their local heritage. Stews are most commonly served with Steamed basmati rice, and decorated with saffron rice, to bring out the special aromas that saffron brings to the dish.
